QSL card from our only QSO in 1982
Mr Harlan was my Crestmoor High electronics teacher in San Bruno during 1979-80 and his amateur call sign was W6OST.

Back in those days the "W6" calls were the veteran Hams, the REAL hams who had built much of their own equipment and actually understood the electronics theory. He was partly responsible for me getting my Novice license in 1982. I finally had a QSO with him on 10 meter SSB on Sept 11 1982 and exchanged QSL cards.

When I moved away from home I became inactive for over a decade. When I got back on the air in 2002, I looked up him up on QRZ and emailed my old teacher telling him I was active again and that I'd like to get in contact with him and have another QSO but I didn't receive any reply. I then sent him a QSL card with a note. Sadly, I receievd a letter from his wife saying that he had become ill and passed away in 1999.
I wanted to preserve John's callsign as well as memory and not let some new Ham snag his call as a vanity so I started a club in his name and callsign. I was able to get this photo of John and others from John's daughter. If anyone has an old picture of John at his Hamshack or info about the Crestmoor High Amateur Radio Club WB6IRZ, or the WF7WBC Wally Byaum Caravaner's Club please contact me.

Thank you very much.
